He loved racing and had several victories to his credit. One of his favorite pastimes was to ride back on the streets of Los Angeles (he sowed police cars). James Dean wanted to participate in a racing event in Northern California. So did he leave early morning in Los Angeles with Rolf Wutherich passenger who was his mechanic. During the journey he was stopped by a police check and received a ticket for speeding.

After driving nearly four hours, James Deanwas going to cross a small town of Cholame California . At that time, a young student, Donald Turnupseed, arrived from Highway 41 driving a Ford Sedan. James Dean, he was on U.S. Highway 466. The young student cut priority, probably because he did not think the fireball came so quickly.
